My Christmas Wishlist

I know Christmas is still months away, but I thought I’d start early this year. I always have a hard time, thinking about all of the things that I’d love to receive as gifts come Christmastime, so I’m compiling my wishlist months in advance 🙂

Beyond the Face – Characters of Climbing

Beyond the Face

I can’t remember the last time I bought a hard copy of a book. To be honest, I much prefer the convenience of ebooks, but in this case, I will make an exception.

I’ve been following competition climbing for the past few months now, and a handful of my favorite athletes are featured on this book, so it would be so incredibly great to have this in my collection.

Chalk BagChalk Bag and Chalk

This particular item is not actually that high up on my list. It’s something that would be nice to have, but not completely necessary. I’m lucky in terms of the fact that my hands don’t get too sweaty while climbing, so I could go without chalk for the most part.

Hangboard

HangboardMy climbing gym recently put up a few of these in their training area. It’s really good for building finger and upper body strength. I’d love to have one at home for those days when I’m not climbing.

Hard Case for MacBook Pro

Last, but certainly not the least, I want a hard case for my MacBook Pro – the only non-climbing related item on my wishlist lol. I’ve already gone through two hard shell cases. My first case actually lasted a pretty long time. It just started cracking after I accidentally dropped my laptop 😞The one that I’m using right now is already falling apart just after a few months of getting it. And I didn’t even drop the darned thing…😡Time for a replacement!

Sunshine Blogger Award

Sunshine Blogger Award

It’s taken me a while to get around to posting this – mostly because I had such a hard time thinking about all of the questions that I wanted to ask. BUT here it is…finally! Anyway, I’d like to thank Amber from Wild Heart Reviews for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Many thanks Amber! 😀 Stop by her blog if you haven’t already. She mostly posts books reviews. I personally love her Random Thursdays series, so check her out!

Rules:

– Thank the person/people who nominated you
– Answer the questions from your nominators.
– Nominate eleven other bloggers and give them eleven questions.

Questions:

1. What is your favorite time of year? (This can be season or holiday.)

Hands down, Christmas! There’s nothing quite like spending quality time with the family, walking around the city that’s all decked out in christmas lights, and christmas decorations. Even the hustle and bustle of shoppers at malls during that season gets me really excited and happy.

2.  What is your favorite quote?

I’m not really a big quotes person, so I absolutely have no idea how to answer this question…The only thing that’s popping into my head right now is: “Stick them with the pointy end” lol. Comment below if you got that reference 😀

3. If you could rename yourself, what would you change your name to?

If I could change my name, I’d want a more unique one. Maybe a unisex name or even a straight-up boy’s name.

4. What are the three most used applications on your phone?

Just Get 10
SimCity Build It
Megapolis

5. What are three random facts about yourself?

I don’t know how to ride a bike. I’ve tried to learn multiple times as an adult, but I’ve never quite gotten it.

When I was about 5 years old, people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I’d tell them that I wanted to be either a salesperson or a hair stylist lol. Clearly, I was an ambitious little kid 😛

I’m a crazy dog person. I’d want to pet every single dog I come across.

6. What is your astrological sign?

I’m a libra.

7. In reference to question #6, do you think astro signs predict anything about a persons personality?

I don’t believe in astrology, but I do sometimes read the horoscope section just for fun.

8. Do you have a favorite genre of music?

It’s so hard to pick just one! I like various kinds of music depending on the mood I’m in. Sometimes I like to listen to indie rock/indie pop, sometimes it’s rock, and other times I like to blast metal. It really varies, but for the most part, I stick with those genres.

9. What do you like about blogging?

My favorite part about blogging is connecting with other bloggers, commenting on their blog posts, getting engaged into conversations, etc.

10. Tea or Coffee?

Hands down, tea. I have a newfound appreciation for green tea. Coffee has too much caffeine. It gives me palpitations when I drink it. I also feel a bit guilty when I drink coffee, because I can’t drink it black. I usually have to add 3 teaspoons of sugar and quite a bit of milk/cream to make it drinkable. Tea, on the other hand, I can drink on its own.

11. If you were going on a long trip, to an unknown destination, and you could only take -one- thing with you, what would it be?

Boring, practical answer: smartphone. Otherwise, I’d bring a tweezer. Gotta tame that unibrow somehow 😛

My Questions:

  1. Why did you start blogging?
  2. I’m going to copy Amber’s question here and ask…what are three random facts about yourself?
  3. What are your top three favorite TV shows? (can also be movies if you don’t watch TV)
  4. What is your biggest food weakness?
  5. Pet peeves?
  6. Are you a dog or a cat person?
  7. If you could travel to anywhere in the world right now, where would you go? And what would you do?
  8. Hobbies besides blogging?
  9. What do you like most about yourself?
  10. If you could pick one thing that you could be good at, what would it be?
  11. What do you do to decompress?

Who am I nominating?

Liebster Award!

Liebster Award

First of all, I’d like to thank Amber (Wild Heart Reviews) for nominating me. It was so sweet and thoughtful of you! I’ve actually seen this award going around the blogging community for quite some time now, and I thought it was really fun and interesting. Lucky for me, I now have the opportunity to take part in it 🙂

For those of you who don’t know what the Liebster award is, it’s essentially an award that’s given to small bloggers (typically those who have less than 200 followers). It’s a chance to discover new people, and to connect with them.

So, here are the rules:

  1. Thank the blogger that nominated you
  2. Answer the 11 questions that the blogger gives you
  3. Nominate 11 blogs that you think deserve the award
  4. Give them 11 questions to answer
  5. Let the bloggers know you nominated them

Questions:

1. Not everyone is a book blogger; What do you blog about?

I blog about anything and everything that comes to mind. My blog is mostly a reflection of all of my interests, so I could be writing about books one day, TV shows the next, or fitness and climbing.

2. Do you schedule your blogs or write them on the fly?

I write whenever I have something to write about, which unfortunately means that there could long gaps between my blog posts, especially when it’s taking me a while to finish a book that I want to review.

3. What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like to go climbing, but since I injured my arm, I haven’t been able to do that, so I’ve been mostly reading and watching TV shows.

4. How much time do you actively spend blogging?

This really depends on whether or not I have topics that I want to write about. Most of the time, writing a blog post can take me up to 3 hours to finish…And even then, I feel like I’m never completely done. I have a real problem with editing. Sometimes, I’ll publish a post, and then a few days later, I’ll go back to read it again and find something that I don’t like about it, so I end up making more edits. I’m a little bit obsessive in that way.

5. What was the last book you bought?

Every Breath You Take by Judith McNaught. I had already read a digital copy of it several years ago, but she came out with a second version with bonus scenes, so I just had to go out and buy it. I’m a big Judith McNaught fan, so I just couldn’t resist.

6. Every blogger has their drinking vice when blogging, what is yours? Coffee, tea, wine, water?

Water all the way. I’ve been cutting back on sugary drinks, so no more juices or soda for me. And I’m very sensitive to caffeine, so I don’t drink coffee unless I really need to stay awake for something. I’m also not big on alcoholic drinks. I’m mostly a social drinker, so you won’t see me drinking outside of a social gathering.

7. What is your biggest challenge when it comes to running your blog?

My biggest challenge when it comes to blogging is probably reading books fast enough to write reviews regularly.

8. Did you have professional help or did you create your blog yourself?

I created my blog all by myself. I did look through forums when I had trouble with the layout though.

9. If you could travel anywhere in the world and stay for a year, where would it be?

There’s so much of the world that I want to see that it’s really hard for me to pick just one place, but if I had to choose right now, it would probably be New Zealand.

According to what I’ve heard, New Zealand has a lot to offer in terms of beautiful sceneries. I also heard that they have a lot of extreme “sports” out there, and that’s exactly what I’m looking for. You could say that I’m a bit of a thrill seeker. I’d love to go bungee jumping again, and I’d also love to try out one of those rope swings 🙂

10. If you could spend a day with your favorite author, what would you ask them?

I feel like all of the questions that I have for my favorite author are pretty ordinary and standard, things that they’ve already been asked many times before. But here they are anyway…

– When you’re writing a story, do you take inspiration from real-life experiences?
– Do you know the basic gist of the story before you even start writing? For example, do you have an outline of how the main characters meet, what kinds of conflicts they’ll face, how the story ends, etc.?
– How do you make up the dialogue between your characters? How do you ensure that it’s all interesting and witty?

11. What got you into blogging?

Boredom. As I mentioned before, I recently injured my arm, so right after the incident, I had a lot of time on my hands, just sitting at home. I’ve been thinking about blogging for a while now, but I just never really got motivated enough to go through with it until last month.

My questions for those I’m nominating:

  1. This is not really a question, but rather a request…Tell us a random fact about yourself.
  2. If you love reading, what got you started on it?
  3. If you could only read books from one author, who would it be?
  4. If there was a fictional character that you like to fantasize about, who would it be? Fictional character could be from a book, a TV show or a movie 😉
  5. Which artists/bands do you like to listen to the most?
  6. What’s the craziest thing on your bucket list?
  7. What’s the most beautiful place that you’ve ever been to?
  8. If you could live in a different time period, would you? If you answered yes, what year would it be, and where?
  9. Which fictional character would you love to trade places with and why?
  10. Do you do anything to stay in shape/be healthy? If so, what?
  11. What’s something that you really enjoy, and encourage people to try? (Could be an activity, food, product, etc.)

Who am I nominating?

I’ll have to get back to this one. I’m fairly new to the blogging community, so I’m going to need to scourge the internet for new bloggers first 🙂 I’ll be updating this list as soon as I discover new people:

June Favorites

For the past week, I’ve been wracking my brain, thinking of blog post topics that I can write about. Usually, I would just post a book review, but seeing as it’s taking me a long while to finish the book that I’m currently reading, I thought I’d share with you all of the things that I’ve been loving this past month.

June has come and gone without much happening. I’ve been spending a lot of time just sitting at home, nursing my arm injury, so I had a lot of time to watch TV, which is why my favorites list for this month mostly consists of shows.

Without further ado, here are my favorites for June 2015!

Josh Groban’s Stages Album

Josh Groban Stages

I have been a big fan of Josh Groban for a very long time now. I believe I was about 10 years old when I first heard his song To Where You Are, and ever since then, I’ve loved him and his music.

To be perfectly honest though, I was actually a bit disappointed with the album that he put out before this one. I thought All That Echoes wasn’t up to his usual standard, so I was really crossing my fingers when I heard that he was coming out with a new album this year. I was definitely not disappointed with Stages. All of the songs on the album are from musicals, so if you like The Phantom Of The Opera, Les MisĂ©rables, Sweeney Todd, etc., you’re in for a treat!

I haven’t had the chance to listen to all of the songs as much as I’d like, but there are a couple of tracks that really stood out for me. You can listen to them below:

All I Ask of You (Duet with Kelly Clarkson) – from “The Phantom of the Opera”

Le temps des cathĂ©drales – from “Notre-Dame de Paris”

Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley

This show revolves around a group of guys in the tech industry. Richard, the founder of the start-up company Pied Piper, has a pretty hard time navigating through the ins and outs of starting a new business. He and his friends get into lot of mishaps along the way, and it’s pure comedic gold. Some of the scenarios get pretty ridiculous, but it never fails to make me laugh. Think Big Bang Theory, but a hundred times better!

If you are thinking about giving this show a try, watch at least 2 episodes of it before you make any judgements. The first episode doesn’t immediately grab you, but if you stick it out past the 2nd episode, you’ll be greatly rewarded 🙂

Raising Hope

Raising Hope

Raising Hope is about a man who becomes a single father after having a one night stand with a woman who turns out to be a serial killer. I actually already posted about this show, so if you’d like to read about my thoughts on it, click here.

Again, with this show, you really need to watch past the first 5 episodes to fully appreciate the humour. Also, something to keep in mind: seasons 1 and 2 were probably the best. After the 2nd season, the show sort of loses momentum, but I still watched until the very end.

Game of Thrones Season 5

Game of Thrones

Do I really need to give a description of this show? I’m pretty sure everyone has heard of it, but if you have been living under a rock for the past 5 years, here’s a little blurb for you.

Game of thrones is the TV adaptation of the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The story revolves around the different noble houses in Westeros who are all fighting for the iron throne. There’s a lot betrayal and intrigue. It has everything you could ask for. Adventure, romance, politics, fantasy, and much more.

I personally think season 5 is, by far, the best season that they’ve come out with. If you’d like to read a more in-depth review of season 5 of the show, click here, and let me know how you stand on that issue.

Younger

Younger

This show is about a 40 year old single mother who pretends to be 26 in order to reboot her career and her love life. It’s a very girly show that has a bit of that Sex and the City vibe, so if you’re a big fan of Carrie Bradshaw, you might like this series as well. It is a little bit less risquĂ© than SATC, but it’s still very entertaining.

Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls

Gilmore Girls is all about the relationship between a thirty-two year old mother and her sixteen year old daughter. Again, I’ve already written about this show about a week ago. If you’d like to read about my thoughts on it, click here.

In that post, I mentioned that I had reservations about starting season 4. Well, I just jumped right in and finished the whole series. I will say that I’m still not certain about whether or not I like the show lol. I’m still annoyed with a lot of the characters on the show, but seeing as I binge-watched the whole series in a matter of weeks, I thought it deserved a spot on my favorites list.

Watching live streams of the IFSC bouldering events

I started watching live streams of the IFSC bouldering events this month, and I will say that it’s a lot different from watching replays. I personally think that there’s a different feeling in the knowledge that you’re watching something as it’s happening in real time. It’s also a lot more engaging, because you get to chat with other climbing enthusiasts as you’re watching the competitions. There’s a real sense of community, cheering for your chosen athletes.
